Dale A. Whitaker, M.D.
Dale A. Whitaker, M.D. is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement and the treatment of shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, hand and elbow conditions. A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he graduated cum laude from the University of Florida (UF), and attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Fulfilling his longtime dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Whitaker returned to his hometown to train and practice orthopedics. He completed his orthopedic residency at UF College of Medicine Shands Jacksonville Level One Trauma Center. He then served the program as UF community faculty for several years and has been in the private practice of orthopedics since 1989.
During his tenure, he pioneered the anterior hip total joint replacement technique for the benefit of his patients, as the anterior approach is known for decreased recovery time and decreased dislocation rates.
Dr. Whitaker is trauma trained and provides general orthopedic care to the entire family – pediatric to geriatric. His interests include the treatment of most conditions associated with the upper and lower extremities including knee and hip replacement arthroplasty for arthritis, extremity fractures (non -surgical and surgical), sports-related injuries and arthroscopy of the knees and shoulders. Additionally, he evaluates and treats hand and wrist injuries, fractures and soft tissue complaints such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, thumb arthritis, wrist tendonitis and lacerations.
Unique in this community, he also evaluates and treats children’s non-surgical fracture care. Dr. Whitaker is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
