Coastal Health – Orthopedics welcomes Dale A. Whitaker, M.D., a board certified orthopedic surgeon and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, to continue serving throughout Northeast Florida. He brings nearly 35 years experience, specializing in joint replacement and the treatment of shoulder, hip, knee, ankle, hand and elbow conditions, to patients seeking relief for injuries and pain.
Dr. Whitaker has served patients throughout Northeast Florida since 1989. During his tenure, he pioneered the anterior hip total joint replacement technique for the benefit of his patients, as the anterior approach is known for decreased recovery time and decreased dislocation rates.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Whitaker is trauma trained and provides general orthopedic care to the entire family – pediatric to geriatric. His interests include the treatment of most conditions associated with the upper and lower extremities including knee and hip replacement arthroplasty for arthritis, extremity fractures (non-surgical and surgical), sports related injuries and arthroscopy of the knees and shoulders. Additionally, he evaluates and treats hand and wrist injuries, fractures, and soft tissue complaints such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, thumb arthritis, wrist tendonitis and lacerations. Unique in this community, he also evaluates and treats children’s non-surgical fracture care.
A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, he graduated cum laude from the University of Florida (UF), and attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Fulfilling his longtime dream of becoming an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Whitaker returned to his hometown to train and practice orthopedics. He completed his orthopedic residency at UF College of Medicine Shands Jacksonville Level One Trauma Center. He then served the program as UF community faculty for several years.
“Coastal Health is honored to have Dr. Whitaker join Coastal Health’s Orthopedic Division,” said Owner and Lead Physician Kenneth Powell, D.O. “His 35 years of
experience in Orthopedic Surgery, in our hometown of Jacksonville, will provide the highest level of orthopedic patient care for the citizens of our great city.”
Actively involved within his community through missions, volunteering and ministry, Dr. Whitaker was elected to the Legacy of Leaders in 2014. He has had the opportunity to provide care for a variety of patients including family members, high school friends, former teachers and clergy. At times, he has actively treated three generations of families including children, parents and grandparents.
