Intra-articular Joint Injections

Intra-articular Joint Injections

Intra-articular joint injections are used to treat certain types of pain, including that caused by arthritis. During this treatment, steroid medication is directly injected into the joint space. Steroids typically help reduce inflammation, which in turn reduces pain. Often, a person who has not responded to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can find relief from an intra-articular joint injection. The pain relief can be anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Some people can even get relief from their symptoms for six months or more.
