Neurostimulation Trials

Neurostimulation Trials

Depending on your type of pain, your provider may recommend a spinal cord stimulator be implanted. Before you get to that step, you’ll undergo a neurostimulation trial to help determine what kind of pain relief you might receive from a spinal cord stimulator. It also allows you to experience what having a spinal cord stimulator is like.

During this trial, you will come into the office, where a lead is placed in your back to deliver electrical stimulation to the spinal cord. You will receive a local anesthetic and mild sedative during the procedure. After the procedure, you will be carefully monitored at home. Your doctor then determines your response to neurostimulation based on your experience and results. The trial outcome will determine if spinal cord stimulation is the right choice for you.
