Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty

Vertebroplasty is a procedure performed when many other options have been exhausted for patients suffering from a fractured vertebra, severe and prolonged pain and immobility, or complications.

If a patient has tried physical therapy, medication, bed rest, and/or braces without success, then this may be an option your provider will discuss for pain relief.

Vertebroplasty is when a special cement is injected into a fractured vertebra – to relieve spinal pain and restore movement. The procedure also requires laying flat on the back until the cement hardens. Some patients feel immediate relief, while it can take a few days for others. This procedure will stabilize any compression fractures, and imaging guidance will help make the procedure successful.
