Radiofrequency Neurotomy

Radiofrequency Neurotomy

Radiofrequency neurotomy uses the heat from radio waves to reduce pain in the neck and back areas. Heat targets certain nerves and temporarily limits their ability to transmit pain signals by creating a heat lesion. After applying a local anesthetic, needles are inserted through the skin, with precise positioning ensured through imaging scans. Radio waves are delivered through the needles once the needles are in place.

Radiofrequency neurotomy works better for some people than for others. It can offer relief for some people for six to 12 months and up to two years. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and takes up to an hour to complete.
