Those sore knots or tender places that hurt when touched or rubbed are trigger points. They come from trauma to the muscle fibers, which react by forming a taut band.

These points of bands of muscle, or palpable nodules in the skeletal muscle, radiate unexplained pain. Pressing on a trigger point may elicit local tenderness, referred pain, or a twitch response.

Trigger point injections are a minimally invasive treatment that can relax the area and provide relief where other methods fail.
