PRP Therapy

PRP Therapy

Many of the world’s top athletes swear by the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for soft tissue injuries and other painful musculoskeletal conditions. Regenexx® technology produces PRP with the purest and highest concentration of platelets anywhere in North Florida.

What is PRP therapy?

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy is one of several kinds of regenerative medicine. It uses healing cells (platelets) taken from your blood to help your body repair itself more effectively.

After taking a small blood draw, the team at Coastal Health can concentrate the platelet portion of your blood. Platelets are very helpful for healing because they contain many growth factors.

These growth factors are involved in repairing collagen and growing new blood vessels necessary for healing.

One of the other primary goals of PRP therapy is to get stem cells, which play a key role in healing, to work more quickly and efficiently.

PRP therapy is becoming increasingly popular as an alternative to surgery for treating injuries in the:

  • Joints
  • Tendons
  • Ligaments
  • Muscles

Common injuries like tendinitis, partial tendon tears, ligament sprains, partial ligament tears, and muscle tears all benefit from PRP therapy. Leading figures in all kinds of sports are reporting excellent results from PRP therapy for these kinds of injuries.

PRP therapy is beneficial for patients who have arthritis and spinal conditions affecting the neck or back as well.

Is all PRP the same?

PRP is a concentrated dose of platelets taken from your blood, so the active ingredients are the same in all medical PRP therapies. However, the quality of the PRP can vary greatly.

Coastal Health uses the Regenexx® processing system, which ensures Dr. Loch can take out virtually all the red and white blood cells. This is only accomplished using a sterile-certified biosafety cabinet (BSC) and a dedicated laboratory room.

Coastal Health is the only office in North Florida with this advanced setup and the flexibility to create different kinds of PRP. As a result, your PRP injection is super-concentrated and only has the beneficial platelets within the plasma.

It’s possible to see the superiority of the Regenexx® PRP compared to standard PRP. Most centrifuges produce reddish PRP because many red blood cells are still in the plasma.

Regenexx®’s PRP is an amber color, showing it’s purer. Regenexx® PRP is also 3-5 times more concentrated than standard PRP. Using Regenexx®, we can create a specialized form of PRP called platelet lysate.

What is platelet lysate?

Platelet lysate is a highly specialized type of PRP therapy. Standard PRP therapy uses platelets taken from your blood that gradually release growth factors for around a week.

While this is a highly effective treatment, patients in certain conditions may get better results if they receive a faster and more concentrated dose of healing factors. Platelet lysate achieves these enhanced results by further refining the PRP.

Regenexx® technology enables your provider to extract the growth factors from your platelets so your body can use them immediately. This fast and intense platelet release magnifies the healing power of your treatment.

While standard PRP therapy can help tissue healing and growth, Regenexx®’s super-concentrated PRP (SCP) and platelet lysate products offer far better results.
